About me...

I'm Jack Donovan, a senior at CU Boulder. I grew up in California and Georgia, love to play basketball, and haven't taken an art class since high school. (that class actually directly influenced my decision to take this one, four years later).

I have always been interested in art, mostly natural, minimal themes with a degree of otherworldliness. I have yet to choose a preferred medium, but photography, generative art, and large paintings have always caught my eye. I am largely inspired by nature, my daily surroundings, various genres of electronic music, and macro-biology.

My philosophy in life and art is that there are no absolutes; anything can be interpreted in more than one way, by more than one person. My favorite kind of art is one that leaves the viewer to derive their own meaning from the artwork and to focus on the emotional reactions it creates.

I would like to make art that is part inspiring, part interpretive. My artistic interests dance on both sides of the spectrum, with an interest in minimalism and generative artworks and on the other end, vibrant colors and forms that inspire more of a feeling of awe or reflection. I have tons of ideas in my head, across a huge variety of mediums and styles, and hope that this class will help me accurately portray those ideas. Learning how to use digital tools should allow me to build on my ideas and create works that inspire myself and others.
